Dr. ShapiraDr. Adam Shapira was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky and joined Advanced Heart Care in 2008, offering cardiac electrophysiology services. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Princeton University before completing his medical degree at the University of Louisville, in Louisville, KY. Dr. Shapira came to Dallas for both his internship and residency training in internal medicine at UT Southwestern. Dr. Shapira’s cardiology fellowship was completed at the University of Louisville. Subsequently, he completed an additional two-year fellowship in clinical cardiac electrophysiology at Loyola University in Chicago, where he served his final year as the chief electrophysiology fellow.

Dr. Shapira is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in the fields of Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology.

When asked why he decided to become a Doctor, Dr. Shapira sites “I found medicine, and more specifically, cardiac electrophysiology, to be a perfect area of study that combines my interest in science, the satisfaction that I derive from helping individuals overcome serious challenges, the enjoyment I find in writing, and the opportunity to engage in a hands-on career.” His goal is to help each patient move from a condition marked by limiting or debilitating heart rhythm-related symptoms to a situation in which his or her symptoms are either eliminated or relieved. Dr. Shapira’s overriding concern is his patient’s safety and ensuring that clinical goals are pursued in a manner that is in accord with the highest standards of medical care.

Dr. Shapira has a particular interest in atrial fibrillation ablation and has co-authored a book chapter about the safety concerns surrounding this procedure. He has also recently authored an overview article on catheter ablation of supraventricular arrhythmias for the journal, American Family Physician.

When not practicing medicine, Dr. Shapira enjoys spending time with his wife, Debra, a Learning Skills Specialist at SMU Altshuler Learning Center, and their two daughters, Lydia and Audrey, as well as reading literature.
